Marble is created when heat, pressure and aqueous solutions cause granular limestone or dolomite to recrystallize. It is found most often in the older layers of the Earth's crust.

Granite is a coarse-grained igneous rock. It is rich in both quartz and feldspar, and it is the most common plutonic rock of the Earth's crust.

Out of the mountain

Channeling machines are used to quarry marble and granite. These machines make cuts in the stone to separate it from the solid bed. The stone is cut into large blocks.

Into the mill

Once the blocks are separated, they are brought to mills and sawed into slabs.

Then to the shop at Homchick Stoneworks

Special saws are used to cut the slabs into the desired shapes. The stone is finished by polishing.
